Well here we are it's Saturday morning and we are off to Melbourne, everyrthing is packed and we are all about to leave the apartment when Ste decides he has lost his wallet, that's the trouble making new friends on the last night and not getting in till 2am the brains a bit fuzzy. Anyway after frantic search and lots of swearing from yours truly it turns up in his bag - Bloody Boy.
So off we go down the coast road to Cairns Airport luckily we are escaping before Cyclone Yasi rears it's ugly head. So it's back to the old routine, Check in, Security, coffee/sandwich, purchase in flight reading and boarding. More airplane food but there is a bonus none of us has seen in flight film so we are good.
Once we arrive at Melbourne we are greated by Steve Burgess (Budgie to those who know him) a very old and good friend and it is Andrea and his wife who are putting us up for the next few nights as we explore the vast city. After a 30 min drive and a few detours as Budgie curses the roadworks stopping him turning off where he wants we arrive at Port Cook a suburb of Melbourne with it's massive houses and bungalows.
We eventually arrive and are met by Andrea, Jade and Guiness their black Lab who is as soft as shit!!! and loves you to play with his toys with him. Their bungalow is massive but Budgie assures me it is small by comparison, the fact that their on-suite and bedroom are possibly the same size as our full downstairs at Fairlyn puts it into perspective. Well we settle in rooms allocated, boys arguing over who gets the double or the army cot bed, OMG a compromise of 2 nights each does this mean they have agreed on something (somebody ring the POPE it must be declared a saints day or something).
Well beers are opened and the boys are over the moon for once they have internet that doesn't cost them anything and Budgie has a games room complete with pool/airhockey/table tennis table. I'm more interested in the little white box behind his corner bar which he assures me is fully restocked in anticipation of swinging a few lanterns and catching up over the past 5 years. Wow time does fly but after an hour it's back to old times.
Budgie fills me in on the vast number of people I know who have transfered across to Oz army and it's amazing. Then its BBQ time Budgie fires up the beast and we partake of the Ozzy tradition.
Later we are visited by Pete and Dianne and their son sam, another army friend who have transferred across and yet another catch up occurs. Well it's late and I am all beered & Pool playing out and off to bed. Ready for our Melbourne leg of the trip.
